Mollie Halpern: Fraudsters are taking advantage of the public’s interest into the events surrounding the death of Usama bin Laden to try to infect computers.

Charles Pavelites: People are interested in it, and it overwhelms your common sense.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is “FBI, This Week.” The Internet Crime Complaint Center, or IC3, is seeing at least three kinds of Usama-related e-mail scams. Two of them are using social networking sites to lure computer users to open attachments that purportedly show video or pictures of the dead terrorist. The third is an old scheme that has been modified to include the terrorist’s name. It claims to be the FBI asking for money in exchange for a certificate proving you’re not a terrorist. Pavelites: The FBI is not going to contact an individual citizen about a legal matter via an e-mail.
