Mollie Halpern: A Virginia man is sentenced to nearly three years in prison for his role in a bribery scheme involving an employee of the commonwealth. I’m Mollie Halpern, and this is Gotcha, the FBI’s closed case of the week.

Jose Calderon bribed a former teller at the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue licenses to illegal aliens. Case agent Preston Bosch…

Preston Bosch: He would find ineligible applicants who were willing to pay $2,500 for a license, and then spilt the money with the DMV teller.

Halpern: Calderon brought applicants to the DMV service center, where he would falsify their documents and directed them to the teller who part of the scheme.

Bosch: It didn’t take very long for it to mushroom and get out of hand.

Halpern: About 100 ineligible applicants got their licenses because of Calderon’s actions. It was a tip from one of those applicants that brought the case to the attention of the FBI and its law enforcement partners.

Bosch: If you ever become aware of a scheme involving bribery that involves a public official in Northern Virginia, please contact the FBI.

Halpern: Don’t turn a blind eye—report public corruption to the FBI.
