FBI K-9s at Work

Mia, an FBI bloodhound whose job is to do what she does best—follow scent trails—and her handler, known in the FBI as a forensic canine operations specialist, head home after a long day’s work. Mia works in the FBI Laboratory’s Evidence Response Team Unit as a human scent evidence canine. After training and certification—a process that can take two to three years—dogs like Mia can help point investigators in the right direction when time and resources may be in limited supply. Their efforts may later be scrutinized in the courtroom, which is one of the reasons why the FBI promotes the highest standards when scent dogs are used in investigations.
