Inmate Sentenced for Assault at Pollock Prison

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 22, 2013
  • Western District of Louisiana (318) 676-3641

ALEXANDRIA, LA—United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced that Samuel Gonzalez, 34, of Luling, Texas, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell to 110 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assaulting a fellow inmate, causing serious bodily injury. A federal jury found Gonzalez guilty on August 8, 2013, after a two-day trial.

Witness testimony and documents admitted into evidence at trial revealed that on September 6, 2011, at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, Louisiana, Gonzalez was observed with another inmate on surveillance video assaulting a third inmate. The victim was repeatedly struck with an edged weapon resulting in nine lacerations to the upper torso and neck. The injured inmate survived and was taken to a local hospital.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg prosecuted the case.
