River Ridge Man Pleads Guilty in Federal Court to Bank Robbery

DON LEE ALEXANDER, JR., age 36, a resident of River Ridge, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court before U.S. District Court Judge Sarah S. Vance to a single count indictment of bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to documents filed with federal court today, ALEXANDER robbed the Whitney Bank located at 4845 Veterans Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana on August 19, 2011. After the bank robbery, a photograph of the bank robber was released to the public via Crimestoppers. Almost immediately after the posting of the bank surveillance photograph on Crimestoppers and local media websites, tips flowed into Crimestoppers as to the identity of the bank robber. Within six days of the robbery, the New Orleans FBI Field Office agents arrested ALEXANDER without incident at his residence in River Ridge, Louisiana. District Court Judge Sarah S. Vance has set ALEXANDER’s federal sentencing for Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.
The federal violation for bank robbery carries a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years of incarceration followed by as much as three years of supervised probation and a maximum fine of $250,000.00.
This bank robbery case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The criminal case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Abe McGull.
