NEW ORLEANS, LA—STEVEN LYLE FICKES, age 47 and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to fifty-one (51) months in prison for bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten today. In addition, the defendant was ordered to pay $4,480 in restitution and spend three (3) years of supervised release during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risk additional imprisonment should he violate any terms of the release.

According to the court record, on November 12, 2008, FICKES pled guilty admitting that on July 21, 2008, he robbed the Capital One Bank located at 137 Royal street, New Orleans, Louisiana. An undisclosed amount of United States currency was taken and FICKES was apprehended by the New Orleans Police Department as he ran from the bank through the Central Business District.

In addition to robbing the Capital One Bank in July of 2008, FICKES also admitted to robbing the Metairie Bank located at 3922 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana, on May 22, 2008, which was a factor taken into consideration by the Court in sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera.
