David W. Welker, Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Division of the FBI announces the arrest of Lionel Breaux, age 34, of Metairie, Louisiana for bank robbery.

Members of the FBI’s New Orleans Violent Crime Task Force (NOVCTF) arrested Breaux yesterday at approximately 10:30 a.m. in New Orleans for the October 19, 2009, robbery of the Capital One Bank located at 7033 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. He was charged in a Federal Criminal Complaint today.

According to the Complaint a concerned citizen provided a tip regarding the identity of Breaux having recognized him in the bank surveillance image released to the media by the FBI. SAC Welker stated, “Positive results like today’s charges and the arrest are the result of the media’s continual willingness to support area Law Enforcement. The media’s timely release of the subject’s description enables the general public, who is aware of their surroundings, to become involved in identifying and reporting those individuals who are believed to have committed crimes and are wanted by the authorities.”

The NOVCTF is comprised of members of the New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kenner Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Louisiana State Police, the United States Marshal’s Service, and the FBI.

The public is reminded that a criminal complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
