Stamford Man Sentenced to More Than 12 Years in Federal Prison for Role in Bank Robbery Spree

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 12, 2010
  • District of Connecticut (203) 821-3700

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that CHRISTOPHER DAVIS, 35, of Stamford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 151 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for his role in a four-month bank robbery spree.

According to court documents and statements made in court, between May 2009 and August 2009, Spero Moschos of Bridgeport robbed 12 banks in Norwalk, Westport, Stamford, Darien, Wilton, Fairfield, and West Harrison, New York. A Westport bank was victimized twice during the spree. DAVIS participated in eight of the Connecticut bank robberies with Moschos.

The defendants robbed the banks either by passing a threatening note or by making a threatening oral demand for cash. For example, on July 7, 2009, DAVIS entered a Citibank branch in Darien while Moschos waited outside in a getaway car. Once inside, DAVIS orally demanded money and made several threats, including telling one person inside the bank, “I see you, don’t move, I’ll kill you.”

The defendants stole a total of $41,272 during the spree. The amount of loss for the robberies that DAVIS participated in was $28,604.

DAVIS has multiple prior felony convictions, including convictions for burglary and second degree robbery.

On July 6, 2010, DAVIS pled guilty to four counts of bank robbery. On that same date, Moschos pled guilty to five counts of bank robbery. Moschos awaits sentencing.

DAVIS and Moschos have been incarcerated since August 26, 2009, after they were arrested by the Stamford Police Department.

This matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Darien, Fairfield, and Wilton Police Departments. The State’s Attorney’s Offices for the Judicial Districts of Bridgeport/Fairfield and Stamford/Norwalk assisted in the prosecution of this matter. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul Murphy.
