Norwalk Man Sentenced to 27 Months in Federal Prison for Role in Drug Ring

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that LUIS SERRANO, 29, of Norwalk, was sentenced yesterday, August 2, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 27 months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release. On March 11, 2009, SERRANO pleaded guilty to one count of using a telephone to facilitate a narcotics trafficking felony.

On February 14, 2008, a federal grand jury returned a 30-count indictment charging SERRANO and 21 other individuals with various federal drug trafficking, conspiracy, firearm, and witness tampering offenses related to the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine in southwestern Connecticut. According to court documents and statements made in court, SERRANO was intercepted over a court-authorized wiretap ordering narcotics, some of which he then distributed to his own customers.

SERRANO has been detained in federal custody since November 2009.

This matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of members of federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation, and the Norwalk, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Fairfield, and Stamford Police Departments. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tracy Lee Dayton of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force.
