Hamilton, New Jersey Bank Robbery Shooter Identified
Violent Fugitive’s Whereabouts Unknown

FBI Newark September 16, 2011
  • Special Agent Michael Whitaker (973) 792-3020

NEWARK, NJ—On August 23, 2011 shortly after 10 a.m., the JP Morgan Chase Bank, located at 1850 Klockner Road in Mercerville, New Jersey, was robbed at gunpoint. The robber entered the bank, approached the teller counter, waved and pointed a silver revolver at the teller, and fired. The robber escaped on foot with an undisclosed sum of money and remains a fugitive. The teller was rushed to a nearby hospital and has since recovered from her wounds.

However, recent developments in the robbery investigation have resulted in an identification of the subject: Jeffery L. Garrett Jr. (See below for photos and a description.) Because this is an active investigation, law enforcement cannot discuss how we came to identify Garrett Jr. as the robber/shooter at this time. However, law enforcement believes Garrett Jr. is allegedly responsible for another robbery of the same bank in November of 2010. Garrett Jr. remains a fugitive and should be considered armed and dangerous. Citizens should not attempt to apprehend Garrett, Jr. or any other fugitive. Anyone with information on Garrett Jr.’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Newark FBI at 973-792-3000, or if in Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia FBI at 215-418-4000. In an emergency, call 911.
