Federal Prison Inmate Sentenced for Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Yankton Federal Prison Camp inmate charged with assault was sentenced on September 11, 2013, by U.S. District Court Judge Karen E. Schreier.
Delbert Lee Clay, age 43, was sentenced to 33 months in prison to run consecutively with the sentence he is currently serving.
Clay was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 4, 2012, for assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
In November 2012, while being housed at the Yankton Federal Prison Camp in Yankton, South Dakota, Clay got into a fight and punched another inmate several times, causing the other inmate to sustain a broken jaw. He pled guilty on June 18, 2013.
This case was investigated by Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case.
Clay was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
