McLaughlin Man Sentenced in Sexual Contact Case

ABERDEEN, SD—U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin man charged with sexual contact with a child by the use of force was sentenced on February 28, 2011, in Aberdeen by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Monty Craig Green Leaf, age 22, was sentenced to 216 months of custody and five years of supervised release.

Green Leaf was originally indicted in a five count indictment charging aggravated sexual abuse of a child and aggravated sexual contact with a child by a federal grand jury in July 2010. On October 17, 2010, a superseding indictment was filed charging Green Leaf with sexual contact with a child by the use of force. Green Leaf pled guilty to the superseding indictment on November 22, 2010. The charge relates to a sexual assault incident that occurred near Little Eagle, South Dakota, between December 2009 and January 2010, where the defendant had sexual contact with a female child who was under the age of 12.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.

Green Leaf was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
