Mission Man Pleads Not Guilty to Second-Degree Murder and Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for second-degree murder and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Travis Creig Lewis, a/k/a Travis Farmer, age 18, was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 8, 2011. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on December 5, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The charges are merely accusations, and Lewis is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher is prosecuting the case. Lewis was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
