  • District of Minnesota (612) 664-5600

MINNEAPOLIS—Late Friday in federal court, a 40-year-old man from Virginia, Minnesota, was charged with kidnapping his estranged wife. Timothy Glen Caskey was charged via a criminal complaint with one count of kidnapping. At this time, Timothy Caskey remains at large, and his wife, Roberta Lynn Caskey, age 44, also of Virginia, is believed to still be with him against her will.

According to the complaint and affidavit filed in the case, on July 14, 2011, Timothy Caskey forcibly abducted Roberta Caskey off the street in Virginia, Minnesota. Reportedly, she was walking with a friend and others when Timothy Caskey approached in a pickup truck. He allegedly jumped out of the truck, grabbed Roberta Caskey, and struck two people in the group who tried to assist her. He then shoved her into the truck and took off.

Earlier that morning, Timothy Caskey had been released from the Northeast Regional Correctional Center after serving a sentence for violating a restraining order filed by Roberta Caskey. An active restraining order prohibiting Timothy Caskey from having any contact with Roberta Caskey remains in place. Several attempts by Timothy Caskey to contact Roberta Caskey by phone after his release from jail were reported to authorities by Roberta Caskey prior to her abduction.

Two days after the alleged abduction, on July 16, 2011, two people matching the Caskeys’ descriptions stopped at an auto dealership in New Braunfels, Texas. The man asked to test drive a white pickup truck. He provided the auto dealer with a Minnesota driver’s license in the name of Timothy Caskey. Both the man and the woman then got into the truck, a 1998 Chevrolet bearing Texas temporary license tag 20K0599, and left the lot, never to return. The truck they left behind, a red 1991 GMC, Minnesota License Plate NFX316, is registered to Timothy Caskey.

Timothy Glen Caskey is described as a white male, 6’3” tall and 185 pounds, with brown eyes. He is known to frequent campgrounds and rural back roads. Roberta Caskey is a white woman, 5’7” tall and 135 pounds, with brown hair. Timothy Caskey speaks Spanish and may be headed to Mexico. He is considered armed and dangerous.

To report information regarding this case, contact the FBI at (763) 569-8000. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of Timothy Caskey.

If convicted of this crime, Timothy Caskey faces a potential maximum penalty of life in prison. All sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge. This case is being investigated by the FBI, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Virginia Police Department, and the New Braunfels Police Department in Texas. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michelle E. Jones.
