Greenwood, South Dakota Man Indicted on Assault Charges

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Greenwood, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assault.

Wambdi Fischer, age 20, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 6, 2011, for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John E. Simko on July 8, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Fischer is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by BIA Law Enforcement Services and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright is prosecuting the case. Fischer was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
