Fort Yates Woman Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse

BISMARCK—United States Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on August 23, 2011, Sally F. Sees The Elk, 32, of Fort Yates, North Dakota, pleaded guilty in United States District Court to a charge of child abuse in Indian country.

Sees The Elk admitted that sometime between October 2009 to February 2010

Sees The Elk injured a child by hitting the child.

The charge of child abuse in Indian country carries a statutory maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Indian Affairs - Standing Rock Agency.

Sentencing for Sees The Elk has been scheduled for November 14, 2011, in United States District Court in Bismarck, North Dakota, at 1:30 p.m.

Assistant United States Attorney Rick Volk is prosecuting the case.
