Flandreau Man Charged with Assault

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Flandreau man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assault.

Darwin Crow, age 48, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 4, 2011, for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit murder. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John E. Simko on October 26, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Crow is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Flandreau Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright is prosecuting the case. Crow was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial date has been set for January 3, 2012.
