Fargo Woman Pleads Guilty to False Statements

BISMARCK, ND—U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on Dec. 2, 2011, Ashley St. Claire, 26, of Fargo, N.D., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to a charge of false statements surrounding a sexual assault investigation.

In a plea agreement, St. Claire admitted to lying about her presence, as well as others, in a motor vehicle in the Belcourt area on February 28, 2010. St. Claire also admitted to lying about observing activities that occurred in the motor vehicle.

The charge of false statements carries a statutory maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs—Turtle Mountain Agency.

Sentencing for St. Claire has been scheduled for February 27, 2012, in United States District Court in Minot, North Dakota, at 10:00 a.m.

Assistant United States Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell is prosecuting the case.
