  • District of South Dakota (605) 330-4400

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with abusive sexual contact with a minor was sentenced on December 6, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Sylvester Ferrel Long Soldier, age 51, of Rushville, Nebraska, was sentenced to two years of imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund and $676 in restitution to the victim.

Long Soldier was indicted for abusive sexual contact with a minor by a federal grand jury on June 15, 2010. On September 14, 2010, Long Soldier pled guilty to touching a 12-year-old girl's genitalia with the intent to gratify his own sexual desire.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn G. Olson prosecuted the case.

Long Soldier was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
