Seeking Information on Carjacking of Bank Employee and Bank Robbery in Anoka

FBI Minneapolis November 05, 2010
  • Chief Division Counsel Kyle A. Loven (763) 569-8540

On November 5, 2010, at approximately 6:05 a.m., a female employee of the U.S. Bank branch located at 2353 7th Avenue in Anoka, Minnesota, was the victim of a carjacking. The woman was confronted in the driveway of her residence by two unknown men. The men told her she would be shot if she didn’t cooperate with them. One of the men drove her vehicle, with her and the second man in the vehicle, to the U.S. Bank branch. The men knew the way from the employee’s residence to the bank. Once at the bank, the employee was told to let the robbers into the cash vault inside. The employee followed their instructions and allowed them access to the vault. The two robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash from the vault before fleeing the branch on foot. The employee was not harmed.

The two robbers are also believed to be responsible for the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank in Champlin, Minnesota on August 4, 2010, and the U.S. Bank in Plymouth, Minnesota on September 13, 2010. The two robbers are also believed to be responsible for attempted bank robberies in Chanhassen and Lakeville earlier this year.

The robbers are described as black males in their 20s or 30s. One is approximately 6' tall with a thin build, and the other is approximately 5’8” tall with a stocky build. Today they wore dark clothing, which included masks and gloves. They have worn similar clothing in previous robberies. One robber carried a black backpack today and during a previous robbery. There may be other accomplices serving as getaway car drivers for the two robbers.

Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Office of the FBI, requests that anyone with information regarding this bank robbery contact the Minneapolis FBI at 612-376-3200, the Anoka Police Department at 763/576-2860, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office at 763/323-5000, or Crime Stoppers. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these bank robberies.
