U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with sexual abuse of a minor was sentenced on October 29, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Barry Joe White Face, age 22, of Rapid City, was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund. White Face was indicted for sexual abuse of a minor by a federal grand jury on April 20, 2010. White Face pled guilty on July 9, 2010, to engaging in a sex act with a girl under the age of 16. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn G. Olson prosecuted the case. White Face was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
