Man Charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Sexual Abuse

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse. Leo Villarreal, age 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 17, 2010, for aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on August 24, 2010, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is any term of years up to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Villarreal is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn G. Olson is prosecuting the case. Villarreal was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
