Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis FBI office, today announced the federal arrest of Timothy Edward Carson, age 28, of Rosemount, Minnesota. Carson is employed as a police officer with the Minneapolis Police Department.

On Wednesday, January 6, 2009, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Wells Fargo Bank, located 15574 Pilot Knob Road, Apple Valley, Minnesota, was robbed by a lone individual who jumped on top of the teller counter, displayed a semiautomatic handgun, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Following a joint investigation, Carson was taken into custody without incident by Apple Valley Police Officers and FBI Agents at his place of employment. FBI Special Agent in Charge Ralph Boelter offered the following comment: “The Minneapolis Police Department is a vital partner of the FBI here and so we share their profound disappointment. But, it is the duty of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to occasionally bring to justice those who have sworn to protect us. Such is the case here. The FBI is appreciative of the superb work of the Apple Valley Police Department as well as the outstanding assistance provided by Minneapolis Police Department during this difficult investigation.”

On Thursday, January 7, 2010, a federal criminal complaint was filed in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota, charging Timothy Edward Carson with one count of bank robbery for the alleged January 6, 2010, robbery of the Apple Valley Wells Fargo Bank. Also on Thursday, Carson is scheduled to make his Initial Appearance in United States District Court, St. Paul, Minnesota, at 2:00 p.m.

This investigation is a joint effort by the Apple Valley Police Department, Minneapolis Police Department, and the FBI. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota is prosecuting this case.

The charges in a federal criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
