Pine Ridge Man Sentenced in Abusive Sexual Contact Case

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge man charged with Abusive Sexual Contact was sentenced on November 30, 2009, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Richard Smallwood, a/k/a Richard James Left Hand Bull, age 48, was sentenced to 36 months' imprisonment, one year supervised release, and a $100 victim assessment. Smallwood was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 24, 2008. Between March 2002 and March 2003, at Pine Ridge, Smallwood engaged in sexual contact with an individual. He pled guilty to the offense on July 24, 2009. This case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant US Attorney Carolyn G. Olson prosecuted the case. Smallwood was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
