The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) today announced the arrest of William Leon Lane, age 23, of Plymouth, Minnesota. Minneapolis Police Department and Hennepin County authorities had wanted Lane for an August 31, 2009 homicide in an alley behind 1416 11th Avenue North in Minneapolis. Through investigation, the FBI’s Minnesota Fugitive Task had developed information that Lane had spent time in Chicago, but was now in Minneapolis. On Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at approximately 7:00 a.m., agents and officers from the Task Force, along with K-9 deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Lane without incident at an apartment on the 1600 block of Taylor Street, NE in Minneapolis, where he had been staying.

A complaint filed on September 11, 2009, in Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charges William Leon Lane with one count of murder in the second degree. The complaint alleges that on or about August 31, 2009, Lane, also know as “Bit-Bit”, shot and killed an individual in a black Jeep Liberty in an alley behind 1416 11th Avenue North.

A federal complaint filed on October 15, 2009, in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota, charges William Leon Lane with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. The complaint alleges that on or about October 6, 2009, Lane fled the state of Minnesota in an attempt to avoid arrest for the August 2009 murder in Minneapolis.
