The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Milwaukee Division and the Racine Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying two robbery suspects responsible for the attempted armed robbery of the American Legion located at 1234 Douglas Avenue, Racine, Wisconsin, which occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 31, 2014, resulting in the death of a customer.

The two unidentified suspects entered the American Legion tavern and rental hall; one of the suspects had a handgun as they attempted to rob the business. During the incident, one shot was fired and struck the victim customer in the head, causing his death.

The suspect with the gun was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up. He was also wearing grey sweatpants, white shoes, and a white-colored material covering his nose and mouth. The second suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a black T-shirt over the sweatshirt, black pants, and white shoes and also partially covered his face with something over his nose and mouth.

The FBI has initiated an investigation under the federal Hobbs Act (18 U.S.C. § 1951), which prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce and will be worked by FBI’s Greater Racine Gang Task Force.

The FBI is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the robbery and shooting at the American Legion in Racine on May 31, 20124. Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI Milwaukee Division at 414-276-4684.
