Mosinee Man Charged with Making False Statement to Bank

U.S. Attorney’s Office December 14, 2012
  • Western District of Wisconsin (608) 264–5158

MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that an information was filed in U.S. District Court in Madison today, charging Jeffrey L. Tiffany, 67, of Mosinee, Wisconsin, with making a false statement to a financial institution. If convicted, Tiffany faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine.

The information alleges that while employed at River Valley Bank in Wausau, Wisconsin as a senior vice president, Tiffany was responsible for the handling of the insurance premium financing program with Manson Insurance, which included approving all insurance premium financing notes received from Manson Insurance for sale to River Valley Bank.

The information further alleges that Tiffany caused a false statement to be made to River Valley Bank in connection with an insurance premium financing note which on its face was represented to be a legitimate insurance premium financing note signed by the maker of the note, Hardwoods Corporation. The information alleges that in truth and fact the defendant knew this note was not a legitimate insurance premium financing note and it had not been signed by a representative of the Hardwoods Corporation.

The charge against Tiffany is the result of an investigation conducted by the Wausau Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant C. Johnson.

You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
