Custer Woman Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Elizabeth R. Simonis, 29, of Custer, Wisconsin, pled guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court in Madison to embezzling funds from a federally insured credit union.

U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb scheduled sentencing for March 23, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Simonis faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.

At the plea hearing, Simonis admitted that in 2010 while employed at Bulls Eye Credit Union in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, she embezzled $12,000 from a customer’s account. The customer was fully reimbursed by Bulls Eye Credit Union.

The charge against Elizabeth Simonis was the result of an investigation conducted by the Wausau office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Plover Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant C. Johnson.
