Federal Grand Jury Returns Indictments

MADISON, WI—A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, returned the following indictments today. You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Madison Man Charged with Distributing Heroin

Pierre Johnson, 36, Madison, Wis., is charged with six counts of distributing heroin and one count of possessing heroin with intent to distribute. The indictment alleges that he distributed heroin in June and July 2010.

If convicted, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each count. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force. The prosecution of this case will be handled by United States Attorney John W. Vaudreuil.

Centuria Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

Aaron N. Hultquist, 25, Centuria, Wis., is charged with possessing a computer hard drive containing visual depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The indictment alleges that he possessed the child pornography on June 2, 2010. The indictment also includes a forfeiture allegation, seeking the forfeiture of Hultquist’s computer.

If convicted, Hultquist faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Polk County Sheriff’s Department. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.

Two Madison Men Charged with Gun Crime

Christopher J. Singleman, 27, and Carl B. Potts, 29, both of Madison, Wis., are charged with being felons in possession of a firearm. The indictment alleges that Singleman and Potts possessed a .22 caliber pistol on May 11, 2010.

If convicted, Singleman and Potts each face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The charge against them is the result of an investigation by the Madison Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.

Madison Man Charged with Possessing Crack Cocaine

Derrick M. Newton, 40, Madison, Wis., is charged with possessing five grams or more of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. The indictment alleges that he possessed the crack cocaine on April 27, 2010.

If convicted, Newton faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum penalty of 40 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the Madison Police Department. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn.

Plainfield Man Charged with Stealing Money from Federal Agency

Eugene Bula, 57, Plainfield, Wis., is charged with presenting false documentation to the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Farm Service Agency (USDA-FSA) for the purpose of obtaining money through the Loan Deficiency Program. The indictment alleges that in May 2006, Bula presented documentation indicating that his company sold 53,223 bushels of corn to 24 separate individuals for a total of over $93,000, knowing this claim to be false. The second count of the indictment charges Bula with stealing $21,527 from USDA-FSA, obtained by submitting false documentation to USDA-FSA.

If convicted, Bula faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Office of Inspector General. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn.
