U.S. Attorney’s Office June 25, 2010
  • Eastern District of Wisconsin (414) 297-1700

MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Brian S. Johnson, 52, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to five years in prison for bank fraud.

Johnson operated Johnson Investments, a real estate development and construction company in Jefferson, Wis. Johnson obtained loans from the Evergreen State Bank for use to construct or repair residences or structures in Jefferson, Hartford and Oconomowoc, Wis. Instead, Johnson used the loan proceeds for personal expenses and to repay other loans.

Judge Crabb imposed the five-year sentence after determining that Johnson caused $3.9 million in harm to the Evergreen State Bank. Restitution will be resolved at a separate hearing on September 17, 2010.

United States Attorney Sinnott stated the charge followed an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea.
