Madison Man Sentenced to 84 Months on Drug and Bank Robbery Charges

MADISON, WI—Stephen P. Sinnott, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Christopher E. Tibbs, 20, of Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb to 84 months in prison without parole for selling crack cocaine and being an accessory after a bank robbery. The term of imprisonment will be followed by three years of supervised release. Tibbs pleaded guilty to these charges on February 18, 2010.

On July 10, July 13, July 17, and July 24, 2009, an undercover officer called Scorpio Robinson and arranged to buy crack cocaine. Tibbs delivered the crack cocaine to the officer for Robinson. Robinson will be sentenced tomorrow.

On July 24, 2009, Arlandis Issac, Marty Taylor, Larry Price, and Wayner Black entered the Amcore Bank on Verona Road, each armed with a firearm. Issac and Taylor jumped the counter and took money from the tellers who were present. Price and Black patrolled the rest of the bank. A search warrant was later executed at Tibbs' residence and officers found numerous firearms and the clothing and masks worn in the robbery. Tibbs was also paid to hide the vehicle used in the robbery.

In sentencing Tibbs, Judge Crabb found that his difficult childhood made him a very dangerous person with no regard for anyone else. She also stated that he was one of the most out-of-control people she had seen.

The charges against Tibbs were the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
