Fourth Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Armed Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney’s Office May 20, 2009
  • Eastern District of Wisconsin (414) 297-1700

MADISON, WI—Erik C. Peterson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Lamar Liggons, 22, of Chicago, was sentenced to 66 months in prison without parole for armed bank robbery. His prison term will be followed by five years of supervised release.

Liggons pleaded to this charge on March 4, 2009. Three of Liggons' codefendants have already been sentenced for this crime. Corey J. Thomas, 28, and Prince P. Beck, 25, both of Madison, were each sentenced to 27 years in prison without parole. Michael Simmons was sentenced to 75 months in prison. Liggons' and Simmons' sentences were lower than the others because they pleaded guilty and testified against the other co-defendants at the March jury trial. One remaining co-defendant, Jarrell Murray, has not yet been convicted and is awaiting jury trial.

On May 21, 2008, four masked men, some of them armed, entered the US Bank in Blooming Grove and robbed it. Simmons provided the get-away vehicle for these men and entered the bank before them. He was arrested a short distance from the bank immediately following the robbery. Thomas, Beck and Liggons were three of the four masked men who robbed the bank.

The charges against these men were the result of an investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Madison Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chicago Fugitive Task Force, and U.S. Marshals Service. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman and First Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen P. Sinnott.
