  • Public Affairs Specialist Leonard C. Peace (414) 489-3565

Richard K. Ruminski, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Milwaukee office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of GABIEL Y. BONILLA, age 27, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. BONILLA is charged with traveling in interstate commerce from Green Bay, Wisconsin, with intent to avoid prosecution under the laws of the State of Wisconsin for a crime that is a felony, namely, Escape, in violation of Wisconsin Statutes 946.42 (3)(a), all in violation of Title 18, United States Code, 1073.

On Wednesday, September 03, 2008, BONILLA was found guilty by a jury trial for the charges of Disorderly Conduct with use of a dangerous weapon as a repeater and Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety with the use of a dangerous weapon as a repeater. BONILLA was previously convicted of felony escape in Dodge County in 2006. Following those convictions, BONILLA’s bond was revoked and he was to be transported to the Brown County Jail to await sentencing at a later date. While being transported from Brown County Court to Brown County Jail, BONILLA kicked out a back window of a van used for transportation of inmates and escaped.

BONILLA was arrested without incident and taken into custody by FBI Special Agents in San Juan, Puerto Rico, today and is awaiting extradition back to Wisconsin.

The public is warned that an arrest warrant is merely a method by which to charge an individual with criminal conduct. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
