FBI Announces an Arrest Made in Connection with a Theft of $3.2 Million at an Armored Car Courier Company in Miami

The FBI announces the arrest of former Brinks Inc. manager Jose Agurto, 37, of Miami, Florida, on Saturday, January 9, 2016in San Diego, California, on charges of allegedly stealing approximately $3.2 million on January 1, 2016, at a Brinks facility in Miami, Florida.

Agurto was arrested without incident by FBI agents in San Diego, California. Agents did locate money during and subsequent to the arrest; however the amount is not being released at this time. Following his arrest, Agurto was booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center, San Diego, California, where he will remain pending his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in San Diego, on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Agurto is facing federal charges, specifically 18 U.S.C. 2113(b), based upon a federal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, case number 16-2030-MJ-SIMONTON.

This matter is being investigated by the Doral Police Department, the Miami Dade Police Department, and the FBI’s South Florida Violent Crime Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Florida.

Given the investigation is still ongoing, all further information will have to come from PACER or court proceedings.
