Deputy Jailer Charged in Federal Court with Bank Robbery

MEMPHIS, TN—Phtosa Williams Dennis, 42 of Memphis, who is currently employed as a Shelby County Deputy Jailer, was charged today in a Federal Complaint with Bank Robbery and Using and Carrying a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee and My Harrison, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to the Complaint, on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Dennis entered the First South Credit Union located on Austin Peay Highway and placed a demand note on the teller counter and pointed a gun at the teller. Dennis was arrested on Friday, February 5, after a photo lineup which linked her to the crime.
This case is being investigated by the Safe Streets Task Force which is comprised of agents from the FBI and officers from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Memphis Police Department, Bartlett Police Department, and Germantown Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Tony Arvin is handling the case for the government.
