U.S. Attorney’s Office July 10, 2009
  • Western District of Tennessee (901) 544-4231

JACKSON, TN—Edward Tharpe, 50, of Martin, Tennessee was sentenced yesterday in United States District Court for his role in the Bank Robbery of Regions Bank in Martin, Tennessee, announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. United States District Court Judge J. Daniel Breen sentenced Tharpe to 327 months in prison. Because of his extensive criminal history, the Court ruled Tharpe as a Career Offender under the United States Sentencing guidelines. Tharpe's 327-month sentence is consecutive to his state convictions.

Tharpe pled guilty to bank robbery and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence on September 30, 2008. The evidence in court showed that the co-defendants Latoya Wilson and Pam Wilson waited outside the bank in a car while Tharpe entered the bank, brandished a firearm, and demanded money. The three absconded the scene of the robbery and were later apprehended in Nashville by the Nashville Metro Police Department.

Pam Wilson and Latoya Wilson pled guilty to bank robbery on June 13, 2008. Latoya Wilson, 23, of Hollow Rock, Tennessee, was sentenced to 34 months in prison on October 31, 2008, and  Pam Wilson, 45, of Camden, Tennessee, was sentenced to 78 months in prison on September 25, 2008. The three defendants were also ordered jointly and severally to pay $3139.00 in restitution to Regions Bank.

The investigation was handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Martin Police Department and the Nashville Metro Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Victor L. Ivy and James W. Powell handled the case for the government.
