A federal judge sentenced an Ohio man to 121 months for robbing banks in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning sentenced 33-year-old Brian Michael Parnell on Thursday for a series of 11 bank robberies committed over a three-month span in three states.

Parnell, also known as the Sock Hat Bandit for the head covering worn during each of his bank robberies, admitted he robbed six banks in Ohio, three banks in Kentucky, and two banks in Indiana. In each instance, Parnell passed a note to a bank teller demanding money and indicating he had a gun. Parnell took over $27,000 in all. In his final robbery in Independence, Kentucky, Parnell engaged in a high-speed vehicle pursuit in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Under federal law, Parnell must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence and will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years following his release.

The investigation was conducted by the Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Louisville Offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, Independence Police Department, and Covington Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
