U.S. Attorney’s Office August 19, 2010
  • Eastern District of Kentucky (859) 233-2661

COVINGTON, KY—Deshannan Rice, 34, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was sentenced today to 15 years in prison for conspiring to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine by United States District Court Judge David L. Bunning.

In April 2010, Rice pleaded guilty to this charge and admitted that he conspired with several other individuals to distribute five to 15 kilograms of cocaine. Rice also admitted to having two prior felony convictions, one for trafficking in cocaine and the other for failure to pay of child support.

Under federal law, Rice must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for eight years.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Elizabeth A. Fries, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigations, jointly made the announcement today after the sentencing.

The investigation was jointly conducted by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Covington Police Department. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony J. Bracke.
