U.S. Attorney’s Office August 13, 2009
  • Eastern District of Kentucky (859) 233-2661

LONDON, KY—Brent Madon of Pineville, Kentucky, was sentenced on August 12, 2009, to 12 months’ imprisonment to be followed by a supervised release period of three years with the first six months under home confinement, and a $100 special assessment, for conspiracy to buy votes. Robert L. “Bob” Madon, of Pineville, Kentucky, was sentenced today to 20 months' imprisonment to be followed by a supervised release period of two years, a fine of $4,000, and a $100 special assessment, for conspiracy to buy votes by United States District Court Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove.

Both defendants plead guilty to conspiracy to buy votes. Robert L. “Bob” Madon who was running for the office of Mayor of the City of Pineville, Kentucky, in November 2006, conspired with his son, Brent Madon, to have voters vote absentee for Robert L. “Bob” Madon. Brent Madon and Robert Madon entered into an understanding regarding persons who would be willing to sell their vote. Robert Madon would furnish the money with which to buy votes and Brent would find and pay the voters willing to sell their vote.

Under federal law, Brent Madon and Robert Madon must serve 85 percent of their prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for three years.

James A. Zerhusen, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Timothy D. Cox, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, jointly made the announcement today after the sentencing.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorneys Patrick H. Molloy and J. Thompson.
