U.S. Attorney’s Office June 05, 2009 |
COVINGTON, KY—Matthew Briedis, 32, of Florence, Ky. was sentenced today to 57 months in prison by Judge David Bunning for bank robbery.
In the course of his guilty plea, Briedis admitted that he robbed the PNC Bank in Covington on October 13, 2008. He passed a note to a teller threatening to shoot her if she did not give him money. Briedis stole approximately $1,158.00 from the bank. He has a history of misdemeanor theft and drug offenses.
“Every bank robber terrorizes the employees of that bank,” said Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Bracke. “We are committed to vigorously prosecuting all of those who endanger the community by committing these types of crimes. The credit goes to the FBI and Covington Police Department that conducted a thorough investigation and put together an outstanding case against Mr. Briedis. It was their commitment that lead to this success.”
Under federal law, Briedis will have to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence. He will serve three years of supervised release after completion of his prison sentence and will have to pay $1,158 in restitution.
James A. Zerhusen, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Timothy D. Cox, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, jointly made the announcement today after Briedis was sentenced.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Covington Police Department. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony J. Bracke.
