Three Officers Indicted for Roles in Conspiracy to Rob Armored Car Employees

LITTLE ROCK—Christopher R. Thyer, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, announced today the return of a superseding indictment against Jason Gilbert, a/k/a J.D., age 30; Allen Clark, age not available; and Sterling Omar Platt, age 29; all of Little Rock, Arkansas. Gilbert is an officer with the Little Rock Police Department Clark is an officer with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Little Rock, and Platt is an officer with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. The officers; Gilbert, Clark, and Platt were indicted along with Antonio Torel Person, a/k/a Tony, age 36, of North Little Rock and Mark Davis, age 41, of Little Rock, on charges of conspiring from September 2005, until the present to unlawfully take and obtain checks and United States currency from employees of Arkansas Armored Car by actual and threatened force, violence, or fear of immediate injury.

The three-count superseding indictment also charges Person with the robbery of an Arkansas Armored Car employee on September 10, 2007, in North Little Rock and for using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during the robbery. Approximately $400,000 was stolen at gunpoint from an the armored car employee delivering money to a U.S. Bank branch in North Little Rock. Two additional men were also charged for their roles in the September 2007, robbery. They pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

The conspiracy and robbery charges carry a possible punishment of up to 20 years in federal prison and/or up to a $250,000 fine. Federal law also requires a mandatory consecutive sentence of at least seven years if a firearm was brandished during the robbery. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the North Little Rock Police Department, and the Little Rock Police Department.

An indictment contains only allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
