Fordyce Man Sentenced for Attempted Bank Robbery

EL DORADO, AR—Garrett L. Jones, age 33, of Fordyce, Arkansas, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment with no parole and three years’ supervised release today for attempted bank robbery announced Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. Judge Harry F. Barnes imposed the sentence in U.S. District Court in El Dorado, Arkansas.
On June 18, 2009, officers with the Hermitage Police Department discovered that the automated teller machine (ATM) at the Warren Bank and Trust in Hermitage, Arkansas had been pried open in an attempt to steal money, and $44,975.00 in damage was caused to the ATM.
On October 6, 2010, Jones entered a plea of guilty to count two of the indictment charging him with attempting to take and carry away with intent to steal and purloin United States currency in excess of $1000.00, belonging to and in the care, custody, control, management, and possession of the Warren Bank and Trust, a bank whose deposits were then insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. § 2113(b).
The case was investigated by the Hermitage Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Quinn prosecuted the case for the United States.
