El Dorado Man Sentenced for Crack Cocaine Distribution

EL DORADO, AR—Marcus Jones, age 36, of El Dorado, Arkansas, was sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment with no parole and four years’ supervised release today for distributing more than five grams of a mixture or substance containing crack cocaine, announced Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. Judge Harry F. Barnes imposed the sentence in U.S. District Court in El Dorado, Arkansas.
Beginning on or about April 12, 2010, and continuing to on or about June 16, 2010, agents with the El Dorado Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Task Force conducted controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Jones. As part of their investigation, law enforcement agents were able to purchase more than five grams of a mixture or substance containing crack cocaine from Jones.
On October 6, 2010, Jones entered a plea of guilty to count five of the Indictment charging him with knowingly distributing more than five grams or more of a mixture or substance containing cocaine base, commonly known as “crack cocaine,” a Schedule II controlled substance, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(B)(iii).
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau Investigation Task Force, and the El Dorado Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Quinn prosecuted the case for the United States.
