Chin Strap Bank Robber Captured

This press release originated from the City of Henderson Office of the Chief of Police. For information, please contact Michelle French, senior public information officer, at (702) 267-4509.

A 31-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection with four bank robberies that occurred in the past few weeks.

Oswald David Perez, dubbed the “Chin Strap” bandit due to his unique beard, was taken into custody without incident in the area of Town Square near W. Sunset Road. Detectives recovered evidence of the suspect’s involvement in the crime during a search of his home.

With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Henderson Police were able to locate and identify Perez based on bank surveillance photos, witness descriptions of the suspect, and the vehicle he used to flee the scene.

In each of the robberies, the suspect presented a note demanding money and showing a weapon to the tellers. No weapons were used, and no one was injured during the robberies.

The suspect is accused of robbing the U.S. Bank on June 16 located inside Smith’s grocery store, 1000 N. Green Valley Pkwy. in Henderson; Chase Bank, 6920 Arroyo Crossing Pkwy. in Las Vegas on June 18; U.S. Bank at 10140 W. Flamingo Rd. in Las Vegas on June 19; and Chase Bank located at 2585 Anthem Village Drive in Henderson on June 20. Detectives continue to investigate the robberies.

Perez is being held at the Henderson Detention Center on multiple charges of robbery and burglary.
