Topeka Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

WICHITA, KS—A Topeka man who robbed a bank with a pocket knife has been sentenced to 50 months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Brandon Joseph Barrington, 21, Topeka, Kansas, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. In his plea, he admitted that on September 25, 2012, he robbed the Community National Bank at 2909 SW Topeka Boulevard in Topeka, Kansas. He approached the teller’s counter, displayed a knife, and told a teller he wanted $5,000.
Barrington left the bank on foot with $3,000. Officers on patrol near the bank stopped him after a brief foot chase. He told investigators he was homeless when he decided to commit the robbery.
Grissom commended the Topeka Police Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag for their work on the case.
