Alba Man Indicted for Three Bank Robberies

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 03, 2012
  • Western District of Missouri (816) 426-3122

SPRINGFIELD, MO—David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Alba, Missouri man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for robbing three banks in Joplin, Missouri; Webb City, Missouri; and Springfield, Missouri.

Michael D. Manis, 52, of Alba, was charged in a three-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Springfield. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Manis on Mrach 28, 2012.

Today’s indictment alleges that Manis used a weapon to rob a U.S. Bank in Webb City on February 14, 2012; a Great Southern Bank in Springfield on February 24, 2012; and a Great Southern Bank in Joplin on March 14, 2012. According to an affidavit filed in support of the original criminal complaint, Manis told law enforcement officers that he used a different pellet gun for each of the robberies.

Ketchmark cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Joplin, Missouri Police Department and the FBI.
