Kansas City Man Indicted for Armed Robbery of Jewelry Store

KANSAS CITY, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Mo., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for the armed robbery of a Kansas City-North jewelry store and for illegally possessing firearms.

Rowdy M. Offield, also known as Cody Longstreet or Randle Offenstein, 40, of Kansas City, was charged in a three-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City.

Today’s indictment alleges that Offield used a handgun equipped with a silencer to steal jewelry and coins from Crown Fine Jewelry, Inc., 303C N.E. Englewood Rd., Kansas City, Mo., on June 22, 2011. Offield is also charged with using a firearm during a crime of violence.

Offield, who has a prior felony conviction, is also charged with being a felon in possession of firearms. Offield was allegedly in possession of a Sig-Sauer .22-caliber pistol and a Hi-Point 9mm rifle when he was arrested on Aug. 31, 2011. Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition.

Phillips cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Michael Green. It was investigated by the FBI and the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
