Federal Charges Filed in Leavenworth Bank Robbery

KANSAS CITY, KS—Two men arrested after a police chase have been charged with robbing a bank in Leavenworth, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Dale K. Hill, 52, Kansas City, Mo., and Donnique H. Kelley, 22, Kansas City, Mo., were charged with one count of bank robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during the robbery. The charges were made in a criminal complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan.
An agent’s affidavit alleges that the two mens’ faces were covered when they robbed the Country Club Bank, 2310 South 4th Street in Leavenworth, Kan., at about 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 13. The men shouted for the tellers to “Give me all the money. Open all the drawers.” One of the men pointed a black handgun at a teller and demanded money. When she gave him some money, he demanded more.
The two men fled the bank in a black Ford Expedition before switching to a bright orange Dodge Challenger. Lansing police spotted the Challenger driving south on Main Street and Ida in Lansing and began pursuit. The officers tried to stop the car at McIntosh Road and Highway K-7, but the driver drove away at a high rate of speed. Lansing police were joined by the Kansas Highway Patrol. The vehicle drove south on Highway K-7 to I-70 and then eastbound on I-70. Witnesses saw a handgun discarded from the driver’s side window. The gun was later recovered. The vehicle drove east on I-70 and then east on I-670 into Kansas City, Mo. Police used stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Hill and Kelley were arrested at the scene.
If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of 25 years in federal prison on the bank robbery charge and a penalty of not less than seven years and not more than life on the firearms charge. The Leavenworth Police Department, the Lansing Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting.
In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
