U.S. Attorney’s Office October 05, 2009
  • District of Kansas (316) 269-6481

WICHITA, KS—Cindy L. Bailey, 54, Scott City, Kan., has been sentenced to 18 months for embezzlement, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

In July 2009, Bailey pleaded guilty to one count of theft by a bank employee. In her plea, she admitted that from 2004 through July 2008 while she was an employee of Security State Bank of Scott City, Kan., she stole money from customers’ accounts. The theft was discovered during a routine FDIC audit conducted in 2008. An audit conducted following her removal from the bank determined that she had stolen $281,626.

Welch, who prosecuted Bailey, commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its work on the case.
