JACKSONVILLE, FL—United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III announced today that Jon Christopher Stoune (43, Jacksonville) has been indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with attempted enticement, via the Internet, of a person he believed to be a minor child for the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual activity. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. Stoune was arrested on April 21, 2015, in St. Augustine, Florida and remains in custody on related state charges.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
